M.A.S Incontro

What is fencing?

Fencing is a sport that combines the need for quick reactions, concentration, tactics and condition!

What weapons does MAS Incontro use?

At MAS Incontro we train all three weapons - foil, epée and sabre. They all have different characteristics, such as fighting style or target areas. In the beginners course you will start to train foil in order to learn the basics, but afterwards you are free to try all weapons to find the one that suits you best!

How to become a member?

As a new fencer you can join our beginner’s course to learn the basics of fencing and afterwards join the advanced course. If you are an experienced fencer, you can join our advanced course. Information about which UM Sport and MASIncontro Club memberships you need for each course is provided below; UM sports membership and clubmembership. if you want to become a member please fill in the form.

What is the training schedule?

Training is once a week on Thursday evening, from 18:30 pm to 19:30 pm for both the Advanced and Beginner Courses. There is an additional hour of free sparring afterwards from 19:30 pm to 20:30. We offer a free training on Monday evenings from 20:30 pm to 22:00 pm to all MASIncontro Club Members. This is done in cooperation with the civilian La Rapière Fencing Club.

Are we all experts?

No way! We have both brand new fencers, and fencers who’ve been practicing from anywhere between 1 year to 10 years (sometimes more!).

What else does the club do?

Those who want can join us for a round of beer after trainings. There is also the Christmas Dinner, and the Summer BBQ we invite you to.
There are also competitions year round we can go to. These are usually in the Netherlands but there is the possibility to go abroad. This is the best way to gain experience and learn so both beginner and advanced fencers are encouraged to attend. For more information please contact us and check out the Tournament Calendar on our Facebook page.

Do I have to speak Dutch?

No! All our trainers are excellent speakers of English. But of course you can speak Dutch with everybody who understands it.
